The T60RPmk2ai is a model that maximizes the potential of the fourth-generation RP driver, which is Fostex's unique planar magnetic driver that has continued to evolve for over 50 years since its inception. It features a hard maple housing dyed by Awa Aizome indigo artisans in Tokushima, 7N-grade internal wiring, and optional Ultrasuede® ear pads as standard equipment. As the first Made in Japan model in the T60RP series, each unit is meticulously assembled at our domestic factory. The housing is made of solid natural wood.
Therefore, there may be differences in grain, bark, coloration, knots, etc. in each item, but this will not affect the sound quality.

Hard maple solid wood housing finished with Awa Aizome, a traditional Japanese dye developed in collaboration with local artisans
Developed in collaboration with skilled craftsmen, each hard maple housing is carefully dyed with Awa Aizome indigo from Tokushima, resulting in a deep indigo color that beautifully highlights the wood grain. The dyeing process uses “genuine indigo” made solely from indigo plants, which brings out the hard maple’s hardness and heavy specific gravity, preventing unnecessary coloration of the sound. This allows you to enjoy a solid, deep bass range and a clear, resonant treble range without any muddiness.

Uses the same high-purity 7N grade OFC cable as higher-end models for internal wiring
The same high-purity 7N (99.99999%) grade OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) cable used in higher-end models, which has been refined to the utmost to eliminate impurities and enhance transmission capabilities, is used for internal wiring to achieve high sound quality. The 2-pole 3.5 mm connectors equipped on both housings not only improve re-cable compatibility but also demonstrate potential for high-quality sound through re-cabling. The standard included unbalanced cable uses high-quality OFC conductors, and the optional balanced cable is available as the φ4.4: ET-RP4.4BL2Y.

Standard equipped with Ultrasuede® ear pads for comfortable use
The Toray Ultrasuede® ear pads, which were previously an optional feature, are now standard equipment. These ear pads are breathable and soft to the touch, providing smooth, high-quality sound quality from low to high frequencies. The low-rebound around-ear design provides excellent fit, allowing for comfortable use even during long listening sessions.

4th Generation RP Series Driver
The RP technology planar magnetic driver, which has been continuously improved with proprietary technology for 50 years, has undergone significant enhancements in its 4th generation. To expand and uniformize the vibration area of the planar diaphragm, the magnets sandwiching the diaphragm have been increased, and the printed coil pattern has been redesigned. Additionally, by renewing the magnetic circuit components and optimizing magnetic flux distribution, unwanted resonance of the diaphragm is suppressed, achieving sharp response in sound attack and decay. The 4th generation driver, developed by fully incorporating various technologies cultivated over the years, simultaneously achieves improved sensitivity, smooth frequency characteristics for easier monitoring, and excellent transient response. By enabling accurate and delicate reproduction from deep bass to high frequencies, it further enhances the accurate positioning and sound field reproduction capabilities compared to previous models. As before, consistent quality is ensured through integrated manufacturing at the company’s own factory.

<About dyeing with Awa Aizome>
Awa Aizome indigo, a traditional natural dye from Tokushima, has been known throughout Japan since ancient times as an indispensable dye for high-quality dyed fabrics due to its beautiful color. However, it was difficult to dye wood using conventional methods, and trial and error was repeated in adjusting the dye concentration, fermentation process, and soil preparation. The housings of the T60RPmk2ai are dyed using “genuine indigo” made exclusively from natural indigo plants, with the dyeing process involving repeated application and drying by hand over several days. During this process, changes in temperature and humidity affect the dye’s drying, and the condition of each housing’s wood grain alters the conditions under which fine pigment particles penetrate the wood’s structure. This results in a housing that combines the deep blue unique to Hon-ai with the smooth grain of maple wood, creating a truly innovative color where each product’s texture varies from left to right.
