T60RPmk2ai

Introducing the domestically produced T60RPmk2ai, featuring hard maple housing dyed with Awa indigo and high-fidelity components that further enhance the appeal of this listening model.

This model maximizes the potential of the fourth-generation RP driver—Fostex's proprietary full-range planar diaphragm technology, continuously evolving for over 50 years—by housing it in a hard maple enclosure dyed by Awa indigo artisans in Tokushima. It comes standard with 7N-grade internal wiring and optional Ultrasuede® ear pads.As the first Made in Japan model in the T60RP series, each unit is meticulously assembled in our domestic factory. Experience the appeal of this listening model, where traditional craftsmanship and acoustic technology intertwine.
※RP and RP Technology refer to Fostex's proprietary technology that moves the entire surface of the planar diaphragm with regular phase (Regular Phase). (Patent pending: JP Patent Application No. 2024-054367)

FOSTEX 【T60RPmk2ai】Product Introduction

Features

The housing is crafted from solid natural wood.
Therefore, each piece may exhibit variations in grain, texture, color, and knots, but these do not affect sound quality in any way.
We kindly ask for your understanding regarding this matter.

● Solid hard maple housing finished with Awa indigo, a traditional Japanese dye developed collaboratively
Each hard maple housing is meticulously hand-dyed with Awa indigo from Tokushima, developed in collaboration with master artisans, achieving a deep indigo blue that beautifully highlights the wood grain. Dyeing with “Hon-ai” (true indigo), made solely from the indigo plant, leverages hard maple’s hard, high-density properties that resist unnecessary tonal coloring. This results in a solid, deep bass range and a clear, extended high range free from muddiness.

● Utilizes 7N-grade high-purity OFC cable for internal wiring, matching higher-end models
By employing 7N-grade (99.99999%) high-purity OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper) cable for internal wiring—which eliminates impurities to the utmost extent and enhances transmission capability, matching higher-end models—we have achieved high sound quality. Not only does this improve re-cable compatibility via the dual 3.5 mm connectors on each housing, but it also unleashes the potential for enhanced sound quality through re-cabling. The standard included unbalanced cable features high-fidelity OFC conductors, while the optional balanced cable is the φ4.4: ET-RP4.4BL2Y.

● Standard Ultrasuede® ear pads for comfortable wear
The optional Toray Ultrasuede® ear pads are now standard equipment. They provide breathable, soft-to-the-touch comfort and deliver smooth, high-quality sound from deep bass to high frequencies. Combined with the excellent fit of the low-rebound around-ear design, they ensure comfortable use even during extended listening sessions.

● The RP Driver Evolves into its 4th Generation
The fully driven planar diaphragm driver, refined over 50 years with proprietary RP technology, has reached its 4th generation. To expand and unify the planar diaphragm’s vibrating area, the number of magnets sandwiching the diaphragm has been increased, and the printed coil pattern has been redesigned.Furthermore, by completely renewing the magnetic circuit components and optimizing magnetic flux distribution, unwanted diaphragm resonance is suppressed, achieving sharp response with rapid sound attack and decay. Developed by fully incorporating various technologies cultivated over the years, the 4th generation driver simultaneously achieves improved sensitivity, a smooth frequency response ideal for monitoring, and excellent transient response.By enabling accurate and delicate reproduction from deep bass to high frequencies, it further enhances precise localization and soundstage reproduction capabilities compared to previous models. As always, it ensures reliable quality through integrated manufacturing at our own factory.

<About Dyeing with Awa Indigo>
Among Japan’s historic natural dyes, indigo—famous in Edo-period ukiyo-e prints—has long been renowned nationwide for its exquisite dyeing quality. Tokushima’s Awa indigo, in particular, has been indispensable for high-grade dyed textiles since ancient times. However, traditional methods made dyeing wood difficult, requiring extensive trial and error in dye concentration adjustment, fermentation processes, and soil preparation. The T60RPmk2ai housing is dyed using “hon-ai” (true indigo), a dye made solely from natural tade indigo. It is meticulously hand-dyed over several days, with repeated applications and drying cycles. During this process, changes in temperature and humidity affect the dye’s drying, while the grain pattern of each individual housing piece alters the conditions under which fine pigment particles penetrate the wood’s structure. This results in a deep blue unique to true indigo, beautifully highlighting the smooth grain of the maple wood. Each product achieves a truly innovative housing color, with every aspect of the texture differing between the left and right sides.
※The “true indigo” dye used for the housing was also used for some of the blue in Katsushika Hokusai’s “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.”

※The indigo dye used in housing is also employed in some of the blue hues found in Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji."
